Move-On Town Hall for Democrats on Climate Change
MoveOn.org hosted a "Town Hall" on Climate Change recently, featuring the eight Democrats running for president. This video gives individuals the opportunity to listen to the candidates' plans for addressing this issue if elected. You can watch each candidate at length, or a twenty-eight minute condensed version to get the gist of how the candidates stack up.I have to say that I was not expecting this, but I was most impressed with Bill Richardson, Governor of New Mexico and former Energy Secretary of the US. He proposes to make this issue central to his administration, recognizing Global Climate Change as an issue of National and Global Security. As the producers of 25% of the greenhouse gases, the US needs to show leadership rather than disregarding the issue.
The issue is starting to emerge in the Republican party as well, largely because California moved up its primary date to February, and CA's Governator Schwarzenegger has an agressive agenda for addressing the problem. A recent League of Conservation Voters article discusses some of the dynamics. Romney comes out looking bad in the article for some decisions he made while Massachusetts governor, and also for comments that "the scientists haven't resolved" the global warming question yet.
The League of Conservation Voters has a website where individuals can read each candidate's positions on this topic.
