ABC 20/20 Earth Day program

In case you are still thinking that Global Climate Change (previously known as Global Warming) is some fringe issue, consider this: last night, ABC's 20/20 program was devoted exclusively to Seven Ways to Save the Earth, hosted by respected journalist Diane Sawyer.

From Paris, to China, Arizona, Antarctica and New York, reporters shared stories of actions that people can take to reduce their personal carbon contributions.

Replace incandesent light bulbs with compact flourescents - even if you just pick one blub (the light that is on the most in your house), you will make a difference. And, not only will less carbon be released, but you will be consuming less electricity, and paying your local utility less!

Turn your thermostat down two degrees in winter, and up two degrees in summer. Again, you'll pay the power company less, and reduce your contributions to carbon emissions.

Just one short trip each week, choose to walk instead of drive. It may take you a few minutes longer, but if everyone did this, it would make an amazing difference in the amount of carbon emitted into the atmosphere. And besides, most of us could benefit from the extra bit of exercise, couldn't we?!

Or, take your own bags to the grocery store - each one of us is responsible for 18,000 plastic bags in our lifetime - that sure isn't the legacy I want to leave.

The list goes on and on. Practical, easy, money-saving things we can all do that will make a difference. ABC has a message board set up with lots of postings in response to their report.
